“You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet" John 13:5, 12-14, NKJV italics and emphasis mine
It was a Jewish customs for servants to wash guests' feet as they enter
the living room for they will have dusty and muddy feet/shoes walking from
wherever they came from. When Jesus washed His disciples' feet, He took on a
role of a servant; Peter could not
understand this concept.
