Stubborn Faith

“…Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour...” Matt 15:25-28 KJV (italics and emphasis mine)

A friend told me that he loved (needed) the message that certain minister preaches, but he detests the way he presents it; this unfortunately has put him off from following the message. I thought for a while then told him, you don’t really want that message “bad enough”, I told him to think of what we go through to get Fuel, Diamond or Gold from deep of the earth to surface. Think of the times that you tried to go on diet, do exercise, pray and read the word consistently and constantly, but could not…why?

This gentile (Canaanite) woman, the scripture above, asked for what was “not legally hers” for Jesus was sent, initially, to Israelites. But she wouldn’t let go even after rude NOs, she was relentless. She knew WHAT she wanted and WHERE to get it and Jesus commended her “great faith”. One of the reason we have fickle faith is, we go to God as “one of the option”; but when God is all you have left, why let anyone or anything get in your way? Why allow religion, tradition, people’s opinions, fear, un-belief, insult, ego, pride, bad habit e.t.c. get in your way?

What do you want?

Jesus answered and said to him, “What do you want Me to do for you?” The blind man said to Him, “Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road...” Mark 10:51,52 NKJV (italics and emphasis mine)

A child was asked in Sunday school, what do you want to be when you grow up? He thought for a while then said, “I want to be God” Startled, the teacher asked, “why?”, “because I want to create things” answered the child jubilantly. Most people think they know what they want to be and do, but the truth is we only have a vague idea of who we want to be and what we want to achieve.

Jesus did not assume that the blind man needed to have sight, He asked him…and He is still asking us today and all He gets is vague answers. “I want to be blessed” “I want to be successful” “I want to reach the world” “I want to help people” “I want a better job” etc When our desire/wants/hope is not specific, we cannot accurately aim our faith, which is a prerequisite for an effective prayer.

God has a Problem

“…Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest...” Matthew 9:37-38 KJV (italics and emphasis mine)

The late Minister, ABC Mabondo, liked so much to talk about this particular God’s problem. Every time he would say, “God has a problem” people would go, aaaahhh!!!, incomprehensible isn't it? But true indeed the almighty God has a problem, He has plenty of harvest ready to be harvested into the store-house but very few labourers (vibarua) who are either ready or out there in the field working. We all know what happens when a ready harvest stays too long in the field.

God has no problem of overseers, managers and supervisors; we have plenty of those in the field, but very few labourers. Labourers (manual workers-not necessarily unskilled) are those who are willing and humble enough to roll back their sleeves and go to work. Without labourers, supervisors’/overseers’ role is redundant…Jesus then says the solution is PRAY that God will send…He didn’t say Go or start recruiting yourself but PRAY that God will send LABOURERS into HIS harvest.

Destiny, know yours?

“…But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will cause you to recall (will remind you of, bring to your remembrance) everything I have told you...” John 14:26 AMP (italics and emphasis mine)

Less than 10 years ago, before technology blessed us with navigators, we used printed maps, compass or stopped on the road to ask direction from people who knew where we wanted to go. From the traveler’s point of view, nothing has changed; you still need to know your destination prior to embarking on the journey. Which road you take depends on the destination (destiny) you want to arrive at…and sometimes it was necessary to stop, park the car, and read the map before driving off again.

Do you know your destination?…I mean here on earth, who were you made to be? What were you made to achieve? If you don’t know your destination, how do you know which road to take? when you are lost on the way, how do you ask help? When you check the map, what do you look for? I believe the Holy Spirit in us is able to tell us of our destiny and we can ask Him for directions, we can also consult our map (God’s word) and seek counsel (direction) from Godly people.
