Soul Food

“…Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life…” Proverbs 4:23 AMP, italics and emphasis mine

Few days ago I downloaded recipe on how to make lasagna; well I tried my best but what came from the cooker looked nothing like the photo on the recipe. I ate it anyway, didn’t want to waste the food (and my time)…it suffices to say I moved into the “gents” for hours. What I thought will nourish my body turned out to be a poison to my body.

David says in the above scripture that we ought to guard (protect, keep from harm, safeguard) our heart vigilantly (carefully, attentively). Don’t allow everything to go in your heart…people (preachers/teachers) you allow to talk into your heart, the movies (Tv programs) you watch, the books you read for when your heart (soul/mind) is corrupted, so will your whole life.

Answer to Long Life

“…What man is he who desires life and longs for many days, that he may see good. Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit. Depart from evil and do good; seek, inquire for, and crave peace and pursue (go after) it…” Psalm 34:12-14 AMP, italics and emphasis mine

I have tried many things to keep myself healthy; I bought a bike which is now gathering dust, paid for gym membership which I rarely frequented. While it is important to have physical exercise and eat healthily, long life comes by being hooked to the source of life first. Paul tells Timothy that physical exercise profits a little, but Godliness will profit you now and eternal life (1 Tim 4:8)

David in the above text says if anyone desires life (quality) and longs for days (quantity) then simply do five things; ONE: keep your tongue from evil (profanity, vain speaking, blaspheme), TWO: keep your lips against deceit (lying, dishonest, trickery), THREE: depart from evil (repent and turn away from sin), FOUR: do good (especially to believers) and FIVE: desire and pursue, go after peace (harmony, serenity).

Your Prophet Your Victory

“…as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem! Believe in the Lord your God and you shall be established; believe and remain steadfast to His prophets and you shall prosper…” 2 Chronicles 20:20 AMP, italics and emphasis mine

Who you believe determines what you believe (their message); what you believe determines what you do and consequently your destiny. Today we have so many believers who profess to believe in God but would not submit to their church leaders, where they are planted—and they wonder why their day to day victory has become a rare commodity, for God will not circumvent the authority He has instituted.

Jehoshaphat told Judah, just before they faced their enemies, that they needed to believe (listen to, have faith in, follow the instructions of) men of God to prosper. Church, submit to the authority God has ordained in your life—even when you don’t particularly agree with everything—for your victory, success and prosperity comes from the words God has put in their mouth and the anointing in their hands.

Imitate Copy Follow Winners

“…And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises…” Hebrews 6:11-12 NKJV, italics and emphasis mine

The word “imitate” means to copy, emulate, follow same steps, mimic or duplicate. The Scripture clearly says that we should copy, follow, and duplicate what those who have faith and patience did to get their promises. If we don’t we are becoming sluggish—slow, lazy and slothful…and in thus doing we cannot inherit the promises.

So we need both faith and patience; we know that faith is assurance of things hoped for, a conviction of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1) and that faith comes by hearing the word (Rom 10:17). Patience on the other hand is a character and the scripture states that, “…testing of your faith produces patience” (James 1:3, NKJV)
