“…and no one pours new wine into old wineskins; if he does, the fresh wine will burst the skins and it will be spilled and the skins will be ruined (destroyed). But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins...” Luke 5:37,38 AMP (italics and emphasis mine)
Cognac, Whiskey and the sort are types of alcohol also known as spirits; so it amazes me when Paul says we should not be drunk with this type of spirit but rather from the Spirit that is from God [Eph 5:18]…looks like a substituting one spirit for another…but far from it. Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit [1 Cor 6:19] the writer of Romans [12:2] urges Christians to renew their minds lest they be an old skin containing new wine.
If I have learnt anything in my experience in the ministry is that the greatest challenge and opposition the church has is not un-believers but rather new wine filled un-renewed believers. Handling the new wine with an old mentality, trying to figure out the limitless Spirit of God with limited mind. A drunk person does things that a sober person wouldn’t dare do…this is exactly what a renewed mind filled with Spirit from above would do.
