“…if we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God…” Hebrews 6:26-27 NIV [italics & emphasis mine]
After broadcasting last week’s script, someone asked me that since we have unlimited access to the father for forgiveness, does it mean that we can afford to be less sensitive to sin for we have abundance of Grace? I replied with the scripture from Romans 6:15 “…What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!…” The 911 call in most countries is free, but if you abuse it you may be punished in one way or another.
Hebrews 6:26-27 clearly says that if we ‘deliberately keep on sinning’ after we have known the truth, then we no longer have access to God’s forgiveness. The words ‘deliberately’ and ‘keep on’ are crucial as they give us a clue of what sins are likely to usher us into a zone where we may not be forgiven. It is therefore not the sin in and by itself but rather the attitude of the heart. Brethren, let us then stop abusing this Grace as it was purchased by a higher price than anyone of us could ever pay.
