"...You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier..." © 2 Tim 2:1-4, NKJV, italics mine
It is said we learn through mistakes, but I say you can learn through the mistakes of your mentor. A mentor is someone who has gone before you and is willing to pour his/her heart and experience to help you. He or She will not be there to please or baby-seat you but he or she will be there primarily to help you draw out of you the potentials laying dormant within you with minimum pain and at optimum time.
Think about it, Joshua had Moses; Elisha had Elijah; Timothy had Paul...who do you have? your mentor will help you arrive at a destination with min time and pain, you don't have to learn the hard way, if you have a mentor...are you looking for a 'short cut' in life, get a mentor. I don't need a personal mentor, I have my pastor (and a virtual pastor); but the truth is your pastor can only effectively mentor very few people at a time—Jesus mentored 12.
