The Ministry of Pain

“…No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it…” Hebrews 12:11 NIV (italics and emphasis mine)

A man recently almost bled to death after stepping on a nail unaware as his leg was paralyzed. Common headache could be a symptom that something is not quite right in our body…don’t be quick to treat headache with pain killers, first find out why—overwork, lack of sleep, stress, malaria, tumor? The rod of correction (Prov 22:15), discipline, instill pains but saves life—even from hell (Prov 23:13,14).

Contrary to contemporary teachings, pain is a good thing. The bible says we understand the spiritual things from the natural. In the natural pain alert us of existence of anomaly in the body, injury, pain communicates to us. Listen to your pain closely my friend, it is talking to you; telling you what you care about needs fixing, what you should stop or start doing. Pain is your closest ally, work with him not against him.

Church Discipline

“…never accept an accusation brought against an elder unless it is supported by two or three witnesses. If anyone is at fault, reprimand him publicly, as a warning to the rest…” 1 Timothy 5:19,20 NJB (italics and emphasis mine)

These days it is rare to hear of “church discipline”, a church member (or leader) being under “church discipline” by church leaders. May be it is because we have this fallacy that once we are born again we cannot err, so when we do, both members and leaders work so hard to hide it.

We see in the early church that they had church discipline; the writer of Hebrew (12:3-11) quoting Proverbs 3:11,12 states that whomever God loves he discipline (punish, chasten, reprimand, correct). As hard is it may be, discipline is good—it benefits the one under discipline as well as the body of Christ, the Church.

New Year New You

“…do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you]…” Romans 12:2 ©1987 AMP (italics and emphasis mine)

Does New Year bring new things, better prospects, improved conditions of life etc? after all it is a "new" year it has to be better. So we continue living like the previous year-same way of thinking, same attitude about God, people, money, service-yet expecting somehow things to be better in the New Year. Allow me to be the first to say that it won't work...if nothing changes, nothing changes.

If you want to experience change, better prospects, improved conditions of life, relationship (God/people) it starts with you not the New Year; it starts with change of heart and mind, your thoughts have to be renewed for you to have a new year. A Jewish Scientist and Nobel Prize winner, Albert Einstein, once said, “…insanity is doing the same thing(s) over and over and yet expecting different results…”
