“…to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law. To those who are without the law, as without the law…to the weak I became as a weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some…” 1 Corinthians 9:20-22 NKJV (italics and emphasis mine)

Years ago I fell under a lot of criticism from believers when I attended a secular party prepared in honour of our classmates—final year…I was criticised for dancing secular tunes and mingling with drunkards and “loose” women. For some reasons most Christians expects unbelievers to fit to their “cliché” for them to even think of mingling with them let alone witness—share the gospel with them.

The great apostle of all time says that he has become all things to all men that he might save some…why don’t we? Why do we ask unbelievers to get rid of alcohol or play gospel music for us to attend their parties? We demand unbelievers to change their ways for us to minister to them, yet Paul did exactly the opposite.

R U Sleep Walking?

“…a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to lie down and sleep. So will your poverty come like a robber or one who travels [with slowly but surely approaching steps] and your want like an armed man [making you helpless]…” Proverbs 6:10-11 AMP, italics and emphasis mine

My sister used to sleep walk about the house doing chores like dishes, clothes, rearrange her wardrobe or clean the house—full asleep. What amazed me was the fact that she would be fast asleep with eyes wide open and go about the chores with no glitches. The next day she would wake up with no memory whatsoever of what happened, sometimes she would recall but she would say it was a dream.

When we sleep (be unconscious of what is happening around), we will come to poverty (deprived, scarcity, unfortunate, pitiable). Many of us sleep walk through life—in our finances, marriage, ministry, education etc. We leave everything to chances (you know, God knows)…then we are surprised when poverty hits us!!!! WAKE UP…I love what William Bryan (1860 - 1925) said, “Destiny is not a matter of chance; it is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for; it is a thing to be achieved

WWUD, What Would You Do?

“…we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin…” Hebrews 4:15 NIV, italics and emphasis mine

A friend told me once that he is not sure if Jesus faced the same level of temptation we face today. He went on to mention that we are constantly bombarded with filthy papers, internet, TVs, Podcast, Billboards just to mention a few...so God must really understand if we fail Him every now and then.

We have all heard of WWJD movement, i.e. what would Jesus do had He been faced with the dilemma that I am currently facing. The writer of hebrews confirms that He was indeed tempted like us in everyway, yet He did not sin, so we are without excuse. The approach may be different (the media) but the basic nature of sin and temptation remains the same.

Mind UR Own Business

“…that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you. That you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and that you may lack nothing…” 1 Thes 4:11 NKJV, italics and emphasis mine

I read a poster once which said there are two reasons why people don’t mind their own business, one they don’t have mind and two they don’t have business…well, mmmh?...there is a big difference between caringly and lovingly being concerned for others (being there for others) and simply being a busy-body, meddling in other people’s business.

We need to understand that our life—and what God wants us to be, do and achieve with it—is a business (which must bring forth returns). For business to thrive, it must have a “business plan”. The plan should explicitly detail where one is against where one ought to be and how to get there...so what’s your business? Do you have a “written down plan?”
