Men don't cry!

“…Therefore, when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, He groaned in the spirit and was troubled. And He said, “Where have you laid him?” They said to Him, “Lord, come and see.” Jesus wept. Then the Jews said, “See how He loved him!” …” John 11:33-36 NKJV, italics and emphasis mine

Growing up as a man, I was often told by those older than me that ‘men don’t cry’ particularly those from my tribe (Chagga). It was (is?) considered to be a sign of weakness to show such emotions...crying was reserved for women and children. So we (men) hide our emotions (and true feelings) whilst dying slowly inside and thus become as hard as a rock.

Jesus cried publicly openly, He was secure as a man to show His emotions… when was the last time you (even you—wo_man) cried for yourself, loved ones, your country…or anything really, not for selfish reasons but because you care and are passionate about it? If you have not cried for a while perhaps it is time to rekindle your passion for your call and purpose.

When UR faith fails

“…men brought on a bed a man who was paralyzed, whom they sought to bring in and lay before Him…because of the crowd, they went up on the housetop and let him down with his bed through the tiling into the midst before Jesus. When He saw their faith, He said to him, “Man, your sins are forgiven you.”…” Luke 5:18-20 NKJV, italics and emphasis mine

We read of instances in the Gospels where Jesus called out and said, “your faith” has healed you. He did not say, “my faith as son of God” or “by the power invested in me”…He said your faith. But when He called out Lazarus from the dead (John 11) or when He cursed that fig tree (Mark 11), it had to be His (Jesus) faith at work.

The above scripture is draws similarity to when Jesus spoke of the solder whose great faith for his servants healing touched Jesus (Matt 8). Similarly the Canaanite woman successfully contended with Jesus for her daughter healing (Matt 15) Jesus saw the faith of the sick man’s friends and was ‘amazed and impressed’…it pays to have faith-FULL friends, they may rescue you when your faith fails you!

Money Matters

“…Wisdom is better when it's paired with money, Especially if you get both while you're still living…” Eccl 7:11 MSG (italics and emphasis mine)

No matter how close you are to a person, you will have to be "really" close to know how much they earn, in some families a husband does not know how much wife brings home or vice versa. The reason could be that we tend to consciously (or unconsciously) associate our personal worth with how much we earn. So we buy things we don't need and cannot afford that we maintain illusion to people we don't even like that we can afford them; we run into debt and many problems for lack of knowledge of who we are...Jesus warned us saying our life (worth and value) is not in the abundance of what we posses, Luke 12:15 par.

Most of us pretend not to be interested when people talk about money; in believers circles we don't talk 'money matters' as it is not particularly spiritual or humble to do so. But the truth of the matter is money is important and we need knowledge of it (financial literacy) to be good steward
s of it. For lack of understanding (financial illiteracy) many well meaning believers and servants of God are frustrated, under-achieving and will not fulfill their calling. Scriptures say wisdom becomes better when it is accompanied by money and a poor man's wisdom is despised (Eccl 9:16 par).

Below are simple insights (my understanding) about money:
1. It is ok to talk about money, Jesus talked about money more than He talked about prayer and faith,
2. Money in many respect is like fire, an excellent servant (tool) but a terrible master when out of control,
3. It is ok to desire more money (you need more servants to serve more people), but God will judge our motives,
4. The love (lust, insatiability, putting it first above all things, worship) of money is the root of all kinds of evil,
5. Money does not change us, it only amplifies who we already are, so don't blame money for who you are,
