Fifteen years abroad yet when I speak English I am told
l have a distinct Tanzanian accent to my tone and pronunciations of certain words. We can tell some heavy accent like
Nigerian, Irish, English, Scottish, South African. What fascinates me is that
people with accent don't know it, they think others without it are the ones
with accentJ!
We take up more than accent from the people we spend time
with; we pick mannerism, attitude, certain tendencies and beliefs, paradigms
(view of life). No wonder people from certain areas are prone to be good in
business while in other areas are not. It takes conscious efforts to undress negative
influence we have picked along the way.
