“…As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead…” James 2:26 NIV [italics & emphasis mine]
When we believe God for something, we have to back our belief with ‘works, i.e. action’ else according to James our faith is as good as dead. On verse 18 of the same chapter, James argues that ‘show me your faith without works and I will show you my faith by my works’. This can be very confusing for we know that man is not justified by works but by faith according to Romans 3:28.
To understand James, we need to know that faith is made up of belief system. When we believe we act, if we do not then we never believed period. Abraham was enthroned father of faith WHEN he gave his only son likewise even though we are saved by faith by believing in our hearts, we receive salvation BY CONFESSING with our mouth (action), Rom 10:10. It follows therefore quite naturally that if you believe God for something, back up your belief with an act of faith.
