“…For wisdom is a defense as money is a defense, But the excellence of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it…” Eccl 7:12 NKJV, italics and emphasis mine.
Knowledge is acquiring of facts; Understanding is interpretation of facts but Wisdom is the application of facts. A wise person knows which knowledge to use, where, when and how and this is a defense. Honestly speaking, most of our losses in life came where the defense (wisdom) was either lacking or low.
As un-spiritual as it may sound, “money is a defense” just as wisdom; but Solomon goes on saying that the defense from wisdom is better than from money for wisdom gives life. Why? because there are things you can acquire by wisdom which you can’t with money…things like salvation, godliness, patience etc…
